Join our inclusive education advisory committee

News item: Inclusive Education Advisory Committee Vacancy

We count on support from parents and external partners strongly interested in special education to help us build the inclusive system we envision for our District. If you’re a parent or community member who can help us provide a welcoming, inclusive school experience for all children, apply to join our Inclusive Education Parent and Community Advisory Committee.

We’re accepting applications until 4 p.m. October 19, 2018, to fill two positions (one for a parent, one for a member of the community) on the committee.

WHAT'S INVOLVED? 

Our Inclusive Education Parent and Community Advisory Committee is made up of 10 members of the public and two representatives from District administration.

The committee helps the District strengthen its inclusive education system by:

  • enhancing how the District’s Inclusive Education policy and regulations are put into practice
  • providing information and advice to District administrators
  • working to bring Alberta Education’s Principles of Inclusive Education to life in our classrooms

Members of the committee are expected to:

  • serve a two-year term
  • attend three early evening meetings at the Centre for Education each year

WHO CAN JOIN?

Two candidates will be chosen to fill vacancies (one for a parent, one for a member of the community) on the committee. Other applicants may be asked to fill vacant positions throughout the year. Committee members are chosen at the discretion of District administration, which seeks a balanced representation of:

  • parents with children currently attending District schools, and
  • other interested community members

Interviews may be arranged to help with the selection process.
